Less than 48 hours to go in the transfer window, and Chelsea still have at least one too many left backs on the team. Ben Chilwell was outstanding in his first Premier League start for the club on Saturday, and the position is his to lose. But he does have two backups at the moment, Marcos Alonso and Emerson, and it remains to be seen which one of the two will actually leave — if either.
Thanks to the recent brouhaha regarding Alonso’s whereabouts following his half-time substitution against West Brom, he looks the odds-on favorite to be on his way out (on loan, probably), but things can change pretty quickly. And Emerson does remain the easier player to offload, in theory, since he’s younger, on lower wages, and with a shorter contract than Alonso.
So even though Emerson has been more involved so far this season than we might have been expecting, his future is far from settled. And as his agent revealed today, the 26-year-old is still in the conversation for various teams around Europe, including some unnamed Spanish sides, which is news to us.
“I still can’t say for sure where Emerson will play. Nothing is defined yet. I can say that there are some important Spanish clubs on him.”

Emerson had been linked with Inter and Juventus in the recent past, but neither look likely to make a viable move for him at this point. West Ham and PSG took brief turns in the rumor mill as well.
But chances are Emerson’s going to stay.
