Last season, (still) young Chelsea defender Jake Clarke-Salter went on loan to Championship club Birmingham with hopes of getting the time he needed on the pitch to further his skills in football. However he did not get as many chances as we would’ve expected, with only 19 league matches played.
The recently turned 23-year-old has not found a new team for the 2020-21 season yet, but he might have the opportunity to go (on loan) to Belgium, if he’s willing.
According to reports from Het Belang van Limburg and Het Nieuwsblad (via Sport Witness), Clarke-Salter is a target for Jupiler Pro League side Club Brugge. They are looking for a replacement for Matej Mitrović, whose heel injury will keep him out until at least the start of next year.
But their mission to convince JCS is not as straightforward as it may seem. He’s spent the last four years out on loan — Bristol Rovers, Sunderland, Vitesse, Birmingham — after making his only senior Chelsea appearance as an 18-year-old back in 2015-16. He does have two years left on his contract, but with reported interest from Turkish club Trabzonspor, who are currently managed by former Chelsea coach and loan liaison Eddie Newton, he might be looking for a bit more stability at this point in his career.
