Olympique Lyonnais have done everything in their power so far to play down rumors regarding their star striker Moussa Dembélé leaving this January, including a public statement, but the rumor mill cannot be defeated so easily.
Over the past day or so, rumors of a(nother) Chelsea bid have surfaced, mostly from less than desirable sources. But the noise generated has been loud enough that it cannot just be ignored.
So we get reports like this one from the Guardian, which claims that Chelsea “are considering whether to test Lyon’s determination not to sell the striker this month” — which really doesn’t mean anything, and it’s hardly actionable, and easily covers any and all outcomes. But it keeps the conversation going. And sometimes it includes others, too, like possible Inter Milan-target Olivier Giroud, who’s searching for the minutes he’s not getting at Chelsea these days.
So that’s all just more random Silly Season silliness.
Here’s something a bit more worthwhile: Statsbomb looking into why Dembélé’s having such a (relatively) poor season.
Food for thought, as it makes the idea and benefit of signing Dembélé less of a sure shot than many of us might imagine it to be.
