Islam Slimani, Champion of Africa with Algeria last summer, is apparently not very happy in picturesque Monaco, where he’s been playing on loan from Leicester City since the summer — Leicester once thought it would be smart to spend £28m on Slimani, though we can’t really talk given some of Chelsea’s utterly baffling and idiotic transfers in recent years.
Big man Slimani, currently injured (“injured”?) with a quad problem, has actually scored at a decent rate this season, 7 in 14, putting him well on track for his best season since 2016. But the 31-year-old wants to play somewhere else for the rest of the season. And so his agents have been working overtime to try to find a new loan/team.
Manchester United, Inter Milan, Tottenham Hotspur, and of course Chelsea have all been mentioned in the last few hours — not coincidentally, all those teams are looking for some sort of goalscoring help. The first two are said to be the more likely destinations.
I’d say we can safely rest assured that we won’t factor into this inherently silly thing in any way (even if Giroud were to leave), but you know... it’s Deadline Day. Stranger things have happened.
