Chelsea’s first bid for Dries Mertens was rejected, but fear not! Chelsea will make a SECOND bid for Dries Mertens! This cunning plan is sure to not fail. They probably never even saw this coming. BOOM.
As the Telegraph’s Matt Law reports, Napoli’s intention to NOT sell Dries Mertens before Friday’s 11pm (GMT) deadline WILL. NOT. STOP. Chelsea from making ONE. LAST. OFFER. for Mertens. I’d make a cheap and obvious Godfather reference here about horses’ heads or offers too good to refuse, but that would be ... well, cheap and obvious.
But if we do actually want this badly enough, then the offer needs to be one that Napoli can’t refuse for a player whose contract is expiring at the end of the season. That of course would likely lead to another panic buy with way too much money and resources committed, but that’s what happens when you frequently leave crucial bits of business to the last 24-48 hours of every transfer window.
Tick tock.
Chelsea to make last-ditch final Mertens bid. If unsuccessful (which is currently the more likely), it could impact Giroud future. Tottenham still interested in Giroud. https://t.co/3pE16Irn6D
