Alex Telles should be a familiar name if you’ve paid attention to the Chelsea rumor mill at any point in the last 3-4 years. And if the latest reports in Portugal are to be believed, he could be back once again.
The former Galatasaray and Inter Milan left back has been at FC Porto since 2016 (when Chelsea went with Marcos Alonso instead), where he’s been an undisputed starter ever since. But according to A Bola (via BeSoccer), the 27-year-old is not interested in renewing his contract, which has just 18 months left on it. Porto do not want to lose him for free, and could thus begin to explore their options. Telles does have a €40m release clause, but he would likely be available for less than that if he forces Porto’s hand.
Alongside Chelsea’s long-standing (potential) interest, PSG would be expected to pursue as well. Sure, that’s a fair bit of speculation, but Chelsea are quite clearly in the market for a left-back to replace at least one of Alonso or Emerson. While Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell appears to be the primary target, the attack-minded Telles, who’s known for his speed and his crossing, could be a satisfactory alternative.
