Sorry Charlton, but congratulations so Swansea City on your brand new Chelsea starlet Conor Gallagher! The 19-year-old was plucked from his original loan club, Charlton Athletic, after just six months and is now off to Wales. I’ve taken the train from London to Wales before, it’s a smooth and pleasant ride.
Typically when a loan is cut short it’s because the player has been struggling to make an impression or get the match experience that was expected, but this was not the case for Gallagher, who made 26 appearances for Charlton, including 25 (TWENTY-FIVE) starts. To put that in perspective, Kepa Arrizabalaga has four fewer appearances for the season. Gallagher had been one of the Addicks’ most important players, scoring six goals (including this BANGER) and dishing out two assists.
But for Chelsea, and evidently Conor himself, it was important to pursue another step up if the right opportunity were to come — and come it did, via Swansea.
Conor Gallagher has joined Championship side Swansea City for the remainder of the 2019/20 season.

Good luck, Conor!
Conor joins center-back Marc Guéhi as Swansea’s second Chelsea academy arrival this month. Both players will be reunited with Swansea’s new manager Steve Cooper, who coached them during England’s 2017 FIFA U17 World Cup-winning run (Guéhi scored in the final, Gallagher came on as a substitute).
This seems a good fit and too good of an opportunity to pass up. I foresee a lot more watching of Swansea matches in my future.
Good luck, Conor!
