Brazilian attacker Lucas Piazon will be back on the loan track after signing a one-year extension on his Chelsea contract, and then joining Portuguese club Rio Ave on a two-season loan deal.

Piazon has been a Chelsea player since summer 2011, leaving Brazilian club São Paulo for the Blues on an initial £5 million transfer fee. He would get his professional debut with Chelsea’s first-team in the following season, after winning the club’s Young Player of the Year for the 2011-12 term.
And it was on summer 2013 that he began to take one loan stint after another. Since then, he has played with Málaga in Spain; Vitesse in the Netherlands; Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany; Reading and Fulham, in England; and last, but not least, Chievo Verona in Italy.
Rio Ave are a relatively small club in Portugal, who were able to finish in seventh place in the country’s 16-team top league last season. With Piazon on board, they will hope to take themselves beyond their record fifth-place finish, established one season earlier.
Good luck, Lucas!
