Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi on AS Monaco’s radar — report

Looking for a replacement for Falcao?

According to French newspaper L’Equipe (via MaxiFoot), AS Monaco are targeting a move for Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi.

The team from the Principality, where a certain Cesc Fàbregas plies his trade these days, barely avoided relegation from Ligue 1 last season, with an atrocious campaign initially led by Leonardo Jardim, then by their former youth prospect and Premier League legend Thierry Henry, and then by Jardim once again.

The bulk of their goalscoring came from former Chelsea loanee Radamel Falcao, who went on to get 15 league goals for his side. However, the 33-year-old is reportedly looking for a way out, having reached the last year of his massive contract. And so, Monaco are looking for alternatives, and they apparently include Michy, as well as Sevilla striker Wissam Ben Yedder and Real Madrid’s Mariano Diaz.

At the moment, it is unclear where Michy stands with Frank Lampard. Going by preseason playing time, we’d guess that he’s only our third-choice striker at the moment, behind Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud. If that is the case, a move out of Stamford Bridge could be very enticing for him. It also helps that the French transfer window only closes in September 2, which should give all parties involved plenty of time to figure something out.
