Official: Dujon Sterling joins Wigan Athletic on loan from Chelsea

Championship loan for the 19-year-old full back

Chelsea youngster Dujon Sterling has joined Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan, following in the footsteps of fellow Academy full back Reece James, who excelled with the Latics last season and is now knocking on the door of the Chelsea first-team.

Sterling’s move was confirmed today by both teams, and without any talk of a buy-option. He has three years left on his Chelsea contract.

Sterling, a three-time winner of the FA Youth Cup (one of only eight players in any team ever to do so), has been with Chelsea since the U8 level and made his first-team debut (and only Chelsea appearance so far) back in 2017, playing the final 15 minutes against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. The 19-year-old spent last season on loan at Coventry City (third tier), where he started 37 of the 48 League One maches, and was briefly a part of first-team training with Chelsea at the start of the summer, too.

Best of luck, Dujon!
