It was less than a day ago when rumours emerged that Birmingham City were interested in taking Chelsea defender Jake Clarke-Salter on loan. And today, the season-long stint was confirmed, right after he put pen to paper on a new Chelsea deal, which extends his commitment to the Blues until June 2022.

Clarke-Salter spent the last season on loan at Vitesse, after previous experiences in England as a loanee at League One’s Bristol Rovers, and at the Championship with Sunderland. He made 28 league appearances with the club, helping them finish at fifth-place in the league table to earn a spot in Eredivisie’s Europa League classification playoff, in manager Leonid Slutsky’s debut season.
At Birmingham City, Clarke-Salter is expected to help them make a proper promotion push from the Championship this season. They finished 17th in the league last term with 52 points, as 9 points were deducted from them due to financial breaches.
Good luck, Jake!
