Reading have been looking for a major defensive boost for their upcoming Championship campaign, and after briefly being linked with Ethan Ampadu (who joined RB Leipzig instead), today they fulfilled that goal by re-signing Matt Miazga on loan from Chelsea for the full season.
(Incidentally, Chelsea will face Reading in a friendly this weekend as well!)
You wanted him, we've got him...

No introductions needed, welcome back @MattMiazga3! #MattIsBack
Miazga spent the second half of last season on loan at Reading already, after a stint in France with FC Nantes went from great to bad. His strong performances in defence helped the Royals stay afloat in the second division, finishing just above the relegation zone in 20th position. Reading’s goals-per-game average dropped to 1.28 from 1.54 after his arrival in January.
Now with Miazga in the team from the start, Reading will be hoping to build on a that solid defence for a better campaign overall. Miazga recently turned 24 and still has three years left on his Chelsea contract, so a successful season in the Championship could yet be a harbinger of bigger things to come.
Good luck, Matt!
