Chelsea announced today that academy midfielder Luke McCormick, who had one year left on his first professional deal, signed a new three-year deal with the club, which expires in June 2022.
Soon after it was also confirmed that the 20-year-old will be spending the 2019-20 season on loan with League One side Shrewsbury Town.

Just like Mason Mount, Luke McCormick first enrolled at the club at the age of 6, starting off as a striker but eventually moved into central midfield. He helped the team win the FA Youth Cup and the U18 Premier League in 2016-17. He would go on to play for the Development Squad in the PL2 and Checkatrade Trophy competitions, while also captaining the Chelsea U19s in the UEFA Youth League campaign last season, falling just short of lifting the trophy thanks to losing against FC Porto in the final.
On joining Shrewsbury Town, McCormick expressed his happiness to continue his relationship with Chelsea and improve his game while on loan.
“I’m really happy to be here first and foremost and it was good to get the deal done. With this being my first loan it’s a really good club to come to and I know about the history. I’m really looking forward to being here and getting started.”
