The news from Spanish radio earlier today was that Real Madrid had agreed a fee with Chelsea over Eden Hazard. It would appear that they weren’t wrong, but just a bit too early. Their prediction of “next few hours” turned into a few more “next few hours” but those “next few hours” are now actually here ... if Fabrizio Romano, writing for the Guardian is to be believed.
He reports that a deal has been agreed at €100m, plus add-ons. Chelsea had been reportedly holding firm at €130m. The difference in the numbers could very well be just those unspecified add-ons. With just a year left on Hazard’s contract, it’s not like Chelsea had much leverage to lean on other than stubbornness.

We’ll have to wait and see if today’s ever increasing volume of reports about this deal being done turn out to be true. After all, the day (Wednesday) began with reports of Real Madrid CEO flying back to Spain from London without having agreed a deal. By Wednesday night, a deal has apparently been agreed. Things can and often do happen quite quickly in football (regardless of how long rumors tend to stretch things out).
