CD Leganés make opening bid for Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo — report

€4 million for the loanee

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Leganés have made a €4 million bid for Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo.

Omeruo spent the 2018-19 season on loan at the suburban Madrid club, featuring in 28 La Liga matches over the course of the season. With his help, Leganés managed to not only stay up but finish mid-table. In fact, the 13th place was their highest ever finish in club history.

While their opening offer is still a few million below Chelsea’s asking price / buy-option, which is set at €6 million, but they’re apparently confident that they can get this discount to fulfill Omeruo’s wishes of making Leganés his permanent home after seven-and-a-half years spent in the Chelsea Loan Army.

At 25 years of age, with 44 international caps (including two World Cups, 2014 and 2018 with Nigeria), it’s probably well past the time for Omeruo to really move on from Chelsea. While he once or twice came close to possibly featuring in the first-team, it was not meant to be for the kid signed from Standard Liège all the way back in January 2012.
