Marcin Bulka, a 19-year-old goalkeeper we may remember from last preseason, who signed for Chelsea in the summer of 2016, will be switching to Paris this summer upon the expiry of his current contract.
According to Goal’s Nizaar Kinsella, the big kid from Poland has signed a pre-contract with PSG and it should be announced officially as well soon.
The move itself isn’t a surprise — Bulka’s contract was expiring and he made it fairly clear throughout the season that without an obvious path into the first team, especially after Chelsea splurged a world record fee on Kepa Arrizabalaga, that his future lay elsewhere. In fact, he hadn’t even featured in Development Squad games for most of the season.
What is a bit strange is choosing PSG, who may be looking to extend Gigi Buffon and also have Alphonse Areola under contract for the next four years. Are PSG more likely to put their faith into a young goalkeeper? While the thinking behind his desire to continue his development elsewhere is perfectly sound, choosing Paris Saint-Germain, a club that can and actively seeks to buy its way to success, is curious at best.
Good luck, Marcin!
