Jorginho ‘100 per cent’ staying at Chelsea, even if Sarri leaves, assures agent

Jorginho has been synonymous with Sarri-ball

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho is wrapping up his first season in England with strong (or at least improving) performances in his tempo-setting role as the deepest-lying midfielder in Maurizio Sarri’s 4-3-3 scheme.

However, there could be trouble in the horizon as Sarri could be on his way out, just one year after taking over. Jorginho has been key to Sarri-ball for the past four years, and vice-versa, Sarri-ball has made Jorginho a key player at both Napoli and Chelsea. Sarri was one of main reasons Jorginho chose Chelsea over Manchester City, but questions remain whether he would play a big role under any other coach (ed.note: his steady caps for the Italian national team get ignored during these questions).

One conceivable solution would be for Jorginho to go to whichever club Sarri goes to, but according to the player’s agent, that possibility is not on the cards — if for nothing else than because no team in Italy could afford to pay him what Chelsea pay him.

“Could Jorginho leave with Sarri? He has a contract and stays with Chelsea, 100%. In Italy they cannot take it to certain figures.”

Of course, nothing is ever certain in football, especially in the transfer market.

But as things stand, Jorginho is doing a good enough job to warrant our trust for next season, with or without Sarri, and has responded quite well to the constant and often unfair criticism leveled at him, sometimes in rather shameful displays of booing. He might not be a crowd-pleaser, but there are still plenty of signs that he can improve on what has been a solid debut year for him.
