Wan-Bissaka wan-ted worldwide as Bayern join Premier League interest — report

An heir to Azpilicueta?

Crystal Palace right back Aaron Wan-Bissaka is increasingly looking like a prime transfer target for many a big team in the upcoming summer transfer window, with the Mail reporting the Bayern Munich have joined the party that already had Chelsea, Everton, both Manchesters and even Borussia Dortmund in attendance.

This solid bit of agenting has seen the 21-year-old’s rumored price tag rise above £30m, possibly even £40m, especially since it’s been less than a year since he signed a long-term contract through 2022 with Palace.

Wan-Bissaka has been with Palace since 2008, joining at the age of 11, originally as a winger. He made his professional debut last season, making 7 appearances before becoming one of the first names on Roy Hodgson’s teamsheets this season. He’s yet to make his full England debut (he’s also eligible for DR Congo), but surely that’s not too far away as we head into the start of the new FIFA calendar year.

As far as Chelsea’s interest is concerned, given our good relationship with Palace and the possible need to upgrade the position from the Azpilicueta-Zappacosta combo it currently has to make do with — Azpi is better as a center back or a left back, even, and Zappacosta is a very limited straight-line runner and little else — the rumors make plenty of sense. Whether we can hang with the big boys is another question, but it’s a situation that’s certainly worthwhile to monitor, even if we were to give some our own academy graduates (Reece James, Dujon Sterling, Ola Aina if for some reason Torino doesn’t activate the buyout, etc.) a chance, too.
