BVB ‘do not see any scenario’ wherein ‘fundamental’ Jadon Sancho would leave in January

Chelsea’s transfer ban is over. Chelsea’s form is flagging. Chelsea’s rumor mill is coming out of hibernation and stretching its limbs. Chelsea’s run of just 2 wins in the last 7 games is making it increasingly likely that we take advantage of the reduction of the transfer ban to dip back into the transfer market in January.

One name who’s already taken several turns in the spin zone is young Jadon Sancho, who’s supposedly unhappy at Borussia Dortmund and is wanting to leave, perhaps as early as January. While common sense would dictate that to be an unlikely scenario, common sense is not a common feature of transfer rumors. And Chelsea did acquire Christian Pulisic last January, even if he did finish out at the season at BVB.

That sort of arrangement might be the best hope for any Sancho suitor right now as well, as BVB sporting director Michael Zorc seems quite adamant that the 19-year-old wing wonder isn’t going anywhere at the moment.

“We’re continuing to plan with him. He’s a fundamental player for us and I do not see any scenario where he leaves us (in January)”

“We have already had some situations with him to talk about, and there have been a lot of interviews in the last few weeks. We are in a good way; when he came off the bench in Barcelona and also in Berlin, he gave us a top performance.’

Sancho has 5 goals and 2 assists in his last four games, including the appearance off the bench in Barcelona, and that has certainly improved the mood and the narrative.

With Bayern dropping to sixth (6th!) this weekend in the Bundesliga, Dortmund and all the rest are certainly smelling an opportunity to break the Bavarian giants’ monopoly on the league title. Sancho may yet leave before next season, but that’s quite unlikely to happen in January. If Chelsea are looking for immediate help at the position, the Zaha rumors are more likely to produce a winner.
