Wilfried Zaha to Chelsea is a persistent rumor that isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, whether we like it or not. (It’s not that Zaha’s bad, it’s just that at 27, he’s getting a bit ... old, especially given Chelsea’s recent m.o. in the transfer market even before the transfer ban that brought our own homegrown young talents to the fore. That said, Pedro and/or Willian will need replacing, and Zaha’s certainly not the worst choice, not by a long shot.)
According to an “exclusive” by the Independent, Chelsea “have spoken to intermediaries” about the “possibility” of a summer deal for the winger in whom we have “long held interest”.
Such stories are a dime a dozen in the rumor mill, but this report does name names, and specifically claims that Zaha’s agent, Federico Pastorello has actually spoken to Marina Granovskaia directly. More generic rumors tend not to do that, though perhaps I’m looking too deep into the tea leaves.
Either way, with Zaha “desperate” for Champions League football as time runs out on the prime years of his career, Chelsea will be undoubtedly linked many more times in the subsequent months. And if CAS does lift our ban for January, we will probably hear that version of the rumor repeated many times as well.
Hurray?
