According to Sky Sports, German wonderkid Kai Havertz is set to stay at Bayer Leverkusen this winter, instead of joining any of the several clubs interested in his services.
Chelsea are among the names mentioned by the report, alongside the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. Spanish juggernauts Barcelona and Real Madrid might also be in the mix, according to Sport Bild.
This season, the versatile 20-year-old midfielder — who can also play as an attacker — has already made 19 appearances across all competitions for Bayer, scoring 3 goals and assisting once in the process. He continues to be a staple of the team, just as he’s been since his debut in 2016-17 as a 17-year-old.
While this may not bode well for Chelsea or any other team not named Bayer Leverkusen, it should not be the end of the world. We seem more inclined to look for (proper) forwards next month anyway. Thus, Havertz can wait.
