Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, others poking around PSG duo Neymar and Kylian Mbappé — report

Big names for big ambitions

According to a report from French newspaper Le Parisien (via Sport Witness and the Daily Mail), English clubs Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City — as well as Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona — are all “sounding out” the representatives of Paris Saint-Germain duo Neymar and Kylian Mbappé.

One would assume the biggest clubs on the planet are consistently doing this anyway (especially the two Spanish giants), but with PSG starting to run away with yet another Ligue 1 title and the two of them pouring in the goals — 12 in 15 for Mbappé, 6 in 9 for injury-hit Neymar — attentions are once again increasing. Obviously, it won’t be easy for either of them to leave, despite the constant rumors.

On Neymar’s side, there may be less reluctance in letting him go from Parc des Princes. He almost re-joined Barcelona last summer already, although his supposed price tag of around £250m is not a hurdle easily overcome. But considering he will be turning 28 in February and entering the final two years of his contract after this season — not to mention all the off-pitch shenanigans — that fee may be quite negotiable.

Mbappé’s situation is a bit more complicated. The 20-year-old prodigy has not made as big of a fuss as Neymar about leaving (ed.note: that’s not saying much!), and PSG are trying everything they can to get him to sign a new contract. Like Neymar, Kylian has 2.5 years left on his contract at the moment, so this would be the ideal time to start talking seriously about his future.

The competition for Mbappé’s signature will be intense. Chelsea may or may not be one of the clubs willing to meet the €36m per year it might take to get it. But until he puts pen to paper somewhere, we can certainly dream that we, and he, just might.
