According to Sky Sport Italia (via Football Italia), AC Milan have made an enquiry for Olivier Giroud, in anticipation of his probable exit from Chelsea this January.
The 33-year-old is already on the radar of Milan’s major rivals, Internazionale, while Borussia Dortmund are also reportedly interested. Inter, who are the media favorites in this race, do face a few potential obstacles in their path in terms of wages and contract length, but presumably those issues could be ironed out to facilitate a reunion with former Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte.
Milan’s striker shortlist, just as BVB’s, also includes the recently out of contract Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Rossoneri could have an advantage there thanks to their prior successful association with Zlatan.
Although Giroud has his work cut out for him at Chelsea, especially when it comes to getting minutes over Tammy Abraham or Michy Batshuayi, there still looks to be a market for him at top European clubs. Barring major injuries, Chelsea do not three center forwards in the squad, especially as they all want minutes ahead of Euro 2020. Giroud’s exit thus draws ever closer.
