Lazio have reportedly set Zappacosta as their No.1 target for the winter transfer window. Their ideal arrangement would’ve been a loan with an option to buy, but Chelsea want cash up front. And it seems that the Blues will get what we want, with a £13 million transfer apparently in the works.
Since moving from Torino to Chelsea 18 months ago, Zappacosta has been little more than a backup, and one whose involvement has dropped considerably since last season. After making 35 appearances under Conte, he’s only made 10 under Sarri, with 6 of those coming in Europa League group stage matches. If he does leave, Chelsea would need a new backup for César Azpilicueta, but surely it wouldn’t be so far to fill that vacancy, via either the Academy or the Loan Army, if nothing else.
