PSG considering Deadline Day bid for Willian as Neymar injury replacement — report

PSG’s world record signing could miss the rest of the season

Deadline Day is here and even though it’s only the January Deadline Day, Chelsea could be busy. There are still ... deadwood (can’t think of a nicer word at the moment) to unload in Gary Cahill, Danny Drinkwater, and Michy Batshuayi and plenty of loan moves to confirm (Lucas Piazon, for example), and that’s before we get to true Deadline Day silliness such as “Sky sources” claiming that PSG are mulling over a bid for Willian.

That sounds almost as laughable as when Barcelona were rumored to bid an arm and a leg for him, but PSG are set to be without Willian’s international teammate Neymar for most of the rest of the season and in that sense, the rumor might actually make a bit of sense. (Neymar broke his metatarsal again and could be out for three months if not the rest of the season.)

Chelsea are of course unlikely to sanction any moves for any of the players who are actually getting first-team minutes. Theoretically, we haven’t given up on the season yet!

That said, Willian will be entering the final year of his contract in the summer, so maybe the time to cash in would on a highly inflated deadline day desperation from moneybags PSG? Too bad Pulisic isn’t coming until the summer...
