It was only last week that reports emerged about no club showing any interest in Danny Drinkwater, including Chelsea, his current employers. But with just a day to go in the transfer window, some movement could yet happen.
The Daily Mail reports that West Ham have taken the lead in the “chase” for Drinkwater’s signature in a potential loan deal.

Other “runners” in race are Bournemouth, Burnley and Fulham. But West Ham, who have been monitoring Drinkwater since April last year when complaints about lack of playing time were made public, have the pole position.
While West Ham are far from the risk of relegation — they sit firmly in mid-table, in 11th — they have been on a poor run of form and will be hoping that Drinkwater can solidify thier two-man setup in midfield.
West Ham’s desire to take Drinkwater on loan could be hindered by their need for a striker following Marko Arnautovic’s injury, which could lead them to make a move for Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi instead — although Chelsea’s preference is for a permanent transfer instead of another loan.
There is only one day left to iron out all the details. Time is short!
