Gonzalo Higuaín was excused from training at AC Milan this weekend ahead of his expected move to Chelsea for the rest of the season (and possibly beyond), but as not all the surrounding pieces have been placed yet, the move itself remains on hold.
The expectation, now that Milan are making progress on a replacement and Chelsea have settled Morata’s exit situation as well, is that Higuaín will complete the transfer by Wednesday at the latest.

Most reports out of Italy expect him to show up in London today (Tuesday) for his medical, which surely will just be a formality ahead of his official signing and announcement.
#Chelsea Pipita Higuain is coming... here we go!

The only reason this timing is closely being watched is the revelation that Higuaín could be eligible for the second leg of the League Cup semifinal against Spurs on Thursday, as long as he’s registered with the Football League by midday on Wednesday (so about 26 hours from the time of this writing). Previous reports had assured that he would not be eligible on account of not being registered for the first leg — which makes sense — but the Standard’s Simon Johnson has apparently confirmed it with the league offices, so there’s no time to waste!
(The assumption is that Higuaín wouldn’t need much of an adjustment period to play for Sarri again, though that could be optimistic.)
Just to clarify, #Higuain will be able to face #thfc in League Cup semi-final on Thursday - as long as he is registered as a #cfc player by 12pm on Wednesday.
