Cahill set to end Chelsea career with Fulham loan move — report

Beginning of the end

According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea veteran defender Gary Cahill is nearing a loan move to local rivals Fulham lasting until the end of the season.

The move would also have him seeing out the last six months of his Chelsea contract, and thus put an end to a career filled with trophies during his tenure at Stamford Bridge.

Cahill had been linked to Premier League and Championship clubs, such as Arsenal and Aston Villa. It seems that Fulham have won the race, in their bid to bolster defensive options for former Chelsea coach Claudio Ranieri.

This season did not go well for Cahill, as the 33-year-old only made 7 appearances for the club halfway through the term. It is Cahill’s lowest ever tally as a Chelsea player, 12 games far from the 19 matches he played in 2011-12 as a then 26-year-old arriving from Bolton during the winter transfer window.

The end of Cahill’s tenure approaches. And he will leave us as one of the most decorated players ever, with two Premier League titles, and one trophy from the League Cup, FA Cup, Europa League and, most importantly, the Champions League.
