More than half of the winter transfer window has gone by, and Chelsea captain Gary Cahill, expected to be one of the players who would seek an exit from Stamford Bridge this January, still has not found his new destination.

Moves to Premier League and Championship sides have been rumoured, but none have gathered enough momentum to leave the rumor mill and turn into a proper offer. That however may change soon, as former Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri, currently trying his best at relegation-bound Fulham, would love to have the ‘fantastic’ centre-back at Craven Cottage.

“Gary is a very important player and for us [his transfer] would be fantastic. I don’t know if he wants to come and fight with us.”

Fulham may in fact not be the most attractive place for Cahill, relegation battle and whatnot, but he would surely be a locked-on starter from the day he set his foot there.

But first, Fulham would actually need to go and make a bid for Cahill. Then we would see if Cahill were willing to join a club in desperate need of better defenders and lots of points.
