Batshuayi wants Monaco; Monaco want Batshuayi — report

Loan deal expected to close soon, possibly with an option to buy

Michy Batshuayi is apparently hoping that Cesc Fàbregas will help him put six months of frustrations behind him, as he looks to join AS Monaco on loan from Chelsea this month.

With just 3 goals in 23 appearances, Batshuayi has had the worst half-season of his career at Valencia, and a loan that began with plenty of promise — the Batsman joining the Bats seemed like a match made in social media heaven! — but ended with public criticisms from Valencia’s boss and questions about Michy’s own career. Six months ago, he was the breakout star of the second half of the Bundesliga season, now he’s being written off as just another high profile disappointment.

A return to Chelsea is apparently such a remote possibility that it’s not even fit for tabloid speculation.

Batshuayi is halfway through the five-year deal he signed when he joined Chelsea back in 2016 and looks as far from becoming Chelsea’s featured striker as he’s ever been. Monaco’s loan offer apparently includes a buy-option, as they hope Michy can rediscover the goalscoring form that he showed at Marseille, which prompted Chelsea to spend big on him in the first place (£30m+).
