Agent confirms Jorginho agreed to join Manchester City before going to Chelsea instead

It’s a story that we basically knew already, but now it has been officially confirmed as well. Or about as official as one can ever take an agent’s word.

Speaking on Naples radio yesterday, Jorginho’s agent confirmed that his client had agreed terms with Manchester City before Chelsea swooped in and made him a darker shade of blue instead. Unfortunately for Pep Guardiola, City had not actually agreed with Napoli, and that turns out to be a crucial part of any transfer.

“It was all done with Jorginho [and City]. There was an agreement, but there was no agreement between the clubs. All parties have to agree, and one did not. Then Chelsea asked what the situation was after Sarri arrived and Jorginho went to London.”

Back in July, a very angry Manchester City claimed that Jorginho was “bullied” into switching destinations, but it sounds like Chelsea simply asked a question, flashed a few extra million, and Aurelio De Laurentiis did what all businessmen would do in this case: take the highest offer.

Jorginho responded to the bullying claims at the time by saying that the truth will eventually come out. This isn’t the whole truth here, just an outline of it, but it’s probably as close as we’re going to get. Not that we really need that much more detail. City were gazumped, Chelsea were the gazumpers, and we got to saying gazumping a lot once again and that’s always fun.

Speaking of fun, Jorginho’s having plenty of it so far in the SW6. And all’s well that ends well.

“He’s really enjoying it at Chelsea, the team is on a roll and has won four matches out of four. It’s a great start. Going to Chelsea was an unique opportunity, the career of a player is very short and now we hope for the best.”
