According to the London Evening Standard, Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic is set to undergo a medical at Chelsea today ahead of a loan switch to Stamford Bridge. The report also mentions that the loan deal in which he will join the club includes a buying option, although this has been disputed by news outlets in Spain.

The interesting bit is that Kovacic’s arrival will have repercussions on the future of Tiémoué Bakayoko. The Frenchman should see himself out of Stamford Bridge, potentially in a loan deal to Milan, after just one season at Chelsea.
However, he may not be the sole departure in our midfield sector. Chelsea are keen on sending out Danny Drinkwater, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek is still deciding on whether he leaves the club on another loan assignment.
All in all, this is your usual end-of-the-window rush at Chelsea Football Club. At least this time, it looks to be coming into a satisfactory — albeit very expensive — ending to us.
