A wanted man

When we speak of the next big thing to come out of German football, a few names usually come to mind first. At the top of the list, there are Borussia Dortmund's Christian Pulisic and Bayer Leverkusen's Leon Bailey, both of whom have been linked with moves beyond the Bundesliga ad nauseum in the last few transfer windows.

Still, they look set to stay exactly where they are. In Pulisic's case, no one was quick enough to pull the trigger when he was possibly available at the "modicum" price tag of €70 million this summer, and Dortmund have now taken him out of the shop window.

In Bailey's case, we didn’t even get that far. There may be interest, but at least for now, that’s all academic.

“There’s concrete interest [from Chelsea, Liverpool and Roma].”

“What I can say is that my full focus is on developing myself as a young player, and that’s what I’ll focus on. If a club wants me, my management and Bayer 04 will take care of it.”

We know that both Bailey and Pulisic are ready for the big time already. Sooner or later, they will grow out of their current confines, at long as their agents are doing their jobs.

When that happens, we can only hope that Chelsea are paying attention and are ready to make the necessary moves.
