Future Chelsea transfer target Leon Bailey signs new Bayer Leverkusen contract

Club leverage

Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey has been heralded as one of Europe’s biggest up and coming stars, sure to make his big-money move to the Premier League or Bayern Munich or any of the other big teams across the continent. There was plenty of rumored interest this summer already, to follow on from January rumors as well — including Chelsea — and that is certain to only intensify over the next couple windows.

With that mind, his current team, Bayer Leverkusen, have made sure to lock him down to a long-term contract, with the 21-year-old agreeing to and signing a new five-year deal this weekend. Bailey may or may not be expected to ever see this one fully out with Bayer, but it does give the team a bit of extra leverage in the expected transfer battles ahead.

One to watch for then this season, alongside Christian Pulisic, another highly promising young star in the Bundesliga, who may or may not be high on Chelsea’s shortlist of future Willian/Pedro replacements.
