According to Sky Sports Germany — via their English counterpart — Schalke 04 are not actually interested in taking Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek on loan. His World Cup teammate, Tottenham left-back Danny Rose, is also not on the radar despite rumours to the contrary.

This is a direct response to claims from the previous day from usually credible duo of Dominic Fifield (Guardian) and Matt Law (Telegraph) that had the 22-year-old down as one of Schalke’s targets for the end of the European transfer window. However, Schalke are not interested in loans and neither RLC nor Danny Rose fit their tight €7 million budget. Of course, they could also be saving face given how the reports said the Chelsea youngster was just not inclined to the idea of leaving London.

Chelsea’s midfield is in a completely different situation from last season. Where we once had a shortage of options, we now have a plethora of them with Jorginho, N’Golo Kanté, Mateo Kovacic, Ross Barkley, Danny Drinkwater and Ruben Loftus-Cheek himself. It even forced Tiémoué Bakayoko, who had been Chelsea’s second most expensive midfielder ever, out of the club just one season following his arrival.

But Ruben Loftus-Cheek is here to stay, as it is his own wish. Now, it is on him to make the best out of this opportunity.
