Olivier Giroud is set to hold “crunch talks” with Chelsea regarding his future at the club once he returns from his post-World Cup holidays.
Twice now in this transfer window, he has been linked with moves out of Stamford Bridge — Marseille being the latest — but both times those stories were quickly shot down. He apparently wants to stay at Chelsea, but still wants clarification about his role going forward, especially as both Alvaro Morata and Michy Batshuayi look set to stay and play key roles. His future is “still in the balance”, according to the report.

Giroud arrived in January as a backup and finished the season as a starter, including the FA Cup final. All he’s done since is win the World Cup with France, starting all but one of their games in Russia. He might be 31, but should have every reason to feel confident that he can similarly convince Sarri of his qualities as well.
