Chelsea reach agreement with Jean Michael Seri, maybe — report

Personal terms are ‘ok’; transfer negotiations with Nice not done yet however

Chelsea continue to edge towards a new signing or two as preseason gets under way. Alongside the never-ending Sarri saga, the related and vague (and rather hopeful) Jorginho chatter, and the supposedly in-the-bag Golovin capture, the wheels appear to be turning in the Jean Michael Seri pursuit as well.

The 26-year-old midfielder had been granted leave from Nice’s preseason camp (for either business or personal reasons) and he subsequently may or may not have traveled to London to finalize some things.

The most recent rumor, from Yahoo Sport France’s Manu Lonjon claims that personal terms have in fact been agreed, and now we’re just waiting for Chelsea and Nice to agree as well.

Lonjon’s credibility is however hurt by subsequent acknowledgements of stories that somehow tie the Seri transfer to Abramovich’s visa issues and even one that claims that the Chelsea owner’s funds are unavailable (and Seri’s set for BVB instead) or some other such nonsense. If the Seri deal falls through, it won’t have anything to do with Abramovich’s UK work permit, and everything to do with Chelsea’s usual level of ineptitude in the transfer market (N’Golo Kante acquisition notwithstanding).

Still, Chelsea looking at or at least being linked with midfielders is good news if and when we finally decide to get our summer business going.
