Chelsea, Tottenham interested in Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele — report

Back in January, 21-year-old midfielder Tanguy Ndombele was one of the main figures in Olympique Lyonnais’s 2-1 victory at home over Paris Saint-Germain.

Alongside Lucas Tousart and Nabil Fekir, it was just one of the many scintillating performances from the youngster during the season, which followed a season on loan at Amiens, where he helped secure promotion to France’s top flight. He is now the unsurprising subject of interest from various clubs in England and Italy, including Chelsea as per a report from France Football (via Sport Witness). From Ligue 2, to Ligue 1, to infinity and beyond.

FF claims Tottenham are the likeliest destination, as Mauricio Pochettino has been keen on the midfielder for a while. But nothing has taken place yet due to the World Cup. They expect the English clubs to properly kick off their transfer business once the tournament is over.

While France Football says an approach for Ndombele from Chelsea could depend on N’Golo Kanté and Tiémoué Bakayoko’s situation — as well as the managerial debacle — the futures of Danny Drinkwater and Cesc Fàbregas could play an even larger role. The former has not been fully healthy in what seems like a year, while the latter is not wine and only getting worse with time. Ndombele isn’t a Cesc-replacement, but would actually be an upgrade overall in the sector.

All we need to do is broker a deal with Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas, who seems keen on becoming the French Aurelio De Laurentiis. Sounds fun!
