According to multiple reports today, young attacking midfielder Aleksandr Golovin’s future has been decided, and the future will not be Blue. The 22-year-old is apparently heading to Monaco instead, set to take his medical tomorrow and sign his contract soon after.
While Golovin will return to Russia afterwards, according to that report from Sport24, for a congratulatory meeting with the Russian president after the national team’s surprising run to the quarterfinals of the World Cup, reports seem unanimous in their conviction that barring any last-minute gazumping, Golovin will be a Monaco player for next season.

Golovin looked set for Chelsea for most of the summer, rejecting a move to Juventus in the process and “insisting” on a Premier League adventure. But Monaco came in strong and had a bid accepted as well, then they got to work on the player. Despite all circumstantial evidence (from family to friends) pointing to Chelsea winning this transfer battle, we seem to have lost out.
Oopsies.
