Official: Mario Pašalić joins Atalanta on loan

The midfielder joins the Serie A side on a loan with option to buy

Following a trip to Australia to train and play with Chelsea’s first-team this pre-season, midfielder Mario Pašalić has found his destination for the upcoming season. As had been rumored for a few weeks, it will be Serie A club Atalanta.

Pašalić is joining La Dea on a season-long loan, which also includes a buy-option. The clause is rumoured to be around €15 million, is a fair fee for a player of his quality and resume.

The 23-year-old joined Chelsea from Croatian club Hajduk Split for £3 million in July 2014. It took him just two weeks to join the “loan army” by taking on Elche in the Spanish La Liga for an entire season. This was then followed by moves to Ligue 1’s Monaco in 2015, Serie A’s Milan in 2016 and Russian Premier League’s Spartak Moscow last season. Atalanta will be his fifth loan assignment, and perhaps his last as a Chelsea player depending on how successful he is in the second season of his career in Italy.

Good luck, Pašalić!
