Pre-Mourinho Anthony Martial, who made headlines for the massive fee Manchester United paid for him as a teenager, scored 17 goals in 49 appearances in his debut season at Old Trafford. Since Mourinho’s arrival however, Martial has taken almost twice as many games to score just two more, with 19 goals in 87 matches under The Special On(c)e.
It is clear that Martial needs a change of scenery, but what is far less clear is whether he will get it. With links to Chelsea, Spurs, PSG, and Bayern Munich, Martial theoretically has plenty of option to choose from, but in addition to the team setting a hands-off €100m price tag on him, Mourinho is also reportedly making sure that it Martial does leave, he won’t join another Premier League team.

After all, we can’t always get what we want.
“I would like to be in Los Angeles now and I am in San Jose,’ he said. ‘You cannot do whatever you want in life. I would love to arrive in LA, to train in LA and play all my five matches in LA, and then don’t travel, don’t change hotel and then go back to Manchester.
“I would like to play (United’s opening Premier League fixture) against Leicester on Sunday, but I have to play on Friday. So you don’t get always in life what you want.”

Mourinho is already cutting a rather surly figure this summer, which means there’s little chance of United repaying Chelsea’s nice-guy act in letting Nemanja Matić join them just last summer. Thanks José!
