Since Alisson is off the board, new names are coming to the fore of Chelsea’s search for Real Madrid-bound Thibaut Courtois’ replacement. Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel, AC Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma and even Chelsea legend Petr Čech, currently suffering the great suffering of being at Arsenal, and perhaps others, are all on the shortlist.
Following recent suggestions that Chelsea could make a reunion a reality, Čech’s agent made it clear that the Blues are currently the last thing on the 36-year-old’s mind. The veteran goalkeeper is fully concentration of his upcoming battle with new signing Bernd Leno for the top spot on Arsenal’s depth chart.
“It is always busy during every transfer window around Petr Cech, as a great Premier League person. However, he maximally focuses on the new season at Arsenal, no specific offer is available.”

Čech is indeed a “great person”. A legend, in fact. But time spares no one, and Čech’s once legendary skills appear to be on the wane. Perhaps it is indeed best for all involved if he stays and sees our the remaining year of his contract as a Gunner. He can then come back next summer for one last hurrah for whoever ends up being Courtois’ long-term replacement.
