Having identified AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson as the best and most readily available replacement for Thibaut Courtois, Chelsea’s window of opportunity to actually make a play for him is closing and closing fast. But there is still some light coming in through said proverbial window. Time to make hay while the Sun still shines.
Yesterday’s reports claimed that Liverpool had jumped over Chelsea to the front of the Alisson queue, and sure enough, the Reds have reportedly followed up that passing maneuver with solid action. According to multiple reports, in both England and Italy, AS Roma have accepted a bid in the region of £66m/€75m for the goalkeeper, a record amount for the position, but also right in line with Roma’s supposed demands for the 25-year-old.
#Alisson is getting closer to #Liverpool.#LFC have made new bid for €75M to find the agreement with Roma: the clubs are now are discussing about the details of the payments and the add ons to finalize the deal soon #LFC #Liverpool #transfers— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) July 18, 2018
Liverpool agree fee with AS Roma for Alisson in region of £66m. Nothing to stop other clubs doing likewise, but Liverpool the first. Permission granted to speak to player.— paul joyce (@_pauljoyce) July 18, 2018
Agreeing the transfer fee is an important part of the process, but is not the only part. Liverpool still have to agree personal terms with Alisson himself and it sounds like the details of the transfer fee itself aren’t necessarily finalized either.
So, just like with the Jorginho situation, there is still time for Chelsea to jump in and try to gazump Liverpool. But we have to act fast, and not just on this front but on the corresponding Courtois front as well.
