Having identified AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson as the best and most readily available replacement for Thibaut Courtois, Chelsea’s window of opportunity to actually make a play for him is closing and closing fast. But there is still some light coming in through said proverbial window. Time to make hay while the Sun still shines.

Yesterday’s reports claimed that Liverpool had jumped over Chelsea to the front of the Alisson queue, and sure enough, the Reds have reportedly followed up that passing maneuver with solid action. According to multiple reports, in both England and Italy, AS Roma have accepted a bid in the region of £66m/€75m for the goalkeeper, a record amount for the position, but also right in line with Roma’s supposed demands for the 25-year-old.

Agreeing the transfer fee is an important part of the process, but is not the only part. Liverpool still have to agree personal terms with Alisson himself and it sounds like the details of the transfer fee itself aren’t necessarily finalized either.

So, just like with the Jorginho situation, there is still time for Chelsea to jump in and try to gazump Liverpool. But we have to act fast, and not just on this front but on the corresponding Courtois front as well.
