After laying dormant for all of May and June and, now, half of July, Chelsea’s transfer activities are expected to pick up once Maurizio Sarri is announced as the new head coach.
Sarri’s midfield general Jorginho is expected to be the first arrival, possibly announced alongside his coach as they both make the move from Napoli. Chelsea getting Jorginho should be considered a major coup with or without Sarri in tow, having gazumped the champions, Manchester City to his signature.
Like Kanté did for Conte two years ago, Jorginho could be the key signing to get Sarri’s tenure off on the right foot.
But Chelsea should not be finished just yet. While the Blues have been strongly linked with Aleksandr Golovin, Sarri has a few ideas of his own, and a four-man wishlist as well. Jorginho is one of the four, as is goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who’s been identified as Thibaut Courtois’ replacement should he choose to leave this summer. The third is Daniele Rugani, who may or may not have been waiting for Sarri to arrive at the Bridge to finalize a €35m rumored move there as well.
So far so good then.
Shopping in Italy is ready to start.

The so far unmentioned name is where the concern lies.
Gonzalo Higuain may have had the time of his life under Sarri in 2015-16, but these days finds himself surplus to requirements at Juventus thanks to the arrival of none other than Cristiano Ronaldo. While rumors had percolated along in the background of a potential away move for Higuain, duly denied at every turn, recent reports claim that Juventus have had enough and have actually transfer listed their leading goalscorer for €54m. Higuain is said to be “disappointed, irritated” and thus possibly looking for solace in the care of his former coach.
