Chelsea have been repeatedly linked with Juventus’ young and talented central-defender Daniele Rugani, a player Sarri is supposedly very keen on bringing in should he become the new manager. With the Sarri saga possibly drawing to a close soon, finally, (and with Jorginho in tow!), according to multiple Italian tabloids, Rugani is getting close as well.
There may or may not be an agreement already that would see €40 million go the other way. Rugani’s agent, Davide Torchia, had made it very clear recently that Sarri needed to be in place before negotiations could be made “concrete”. That time could thus very well be now.
While defense should be the last area Chelsea should be concentrating on strengthening right now, Rugani is nevertheless a highly rated player with bags of potential and the quoted price is comparatively “low” in today’s market. If Chelsea were to sell one or more of our current crop of defenders, then this deal would make sense.
In any case, tomorrow’s shaping up to be quite a day. Sarri, Jorginho, and maybe Rugani, too? (But I’m not holding my breath...)
