Chelsea meet with Sevilla breakout star’s representatives — report

As we head deeper and deeper into the summer, the pace of Chelsea transfer rumors is starting to pick up. They may not all be welcome or realistic or believable, but that’s a fairly standard situation.

It’s not yet clear which of those categories this one belongs to, but according to yesterday’s France Football, Chelsea (and Granovskaia specifically) have met with Clément Lenglet’s representatives. The Blues are hardly the only club sniffing around the Sevilla center back, with illustrious Manchester United and Barcelona linked as well. That once again makes Chelsea a potentially useless third wheel in the situation, but we’re just going to have to stick to and strike from the shadows.

Lenglet has only been with Sevilla for a year and a half, moving there from Nancy for just €5m, but this season’s performances have certainly got him noticed by most of Europe’s big teams.

A week shy of his 23rd birthday, Lenglet has a €35m buyout clause that so far no one’s willing to pay. But given the level of supposed interest, this may not be the last time we hear his name. Center back may not be the most pressing need in the squad at the moment, but if there’s an opportunity to upgrade or freshen up, it should still be taken.
