Belenenses ‘prioritising’ loan extension for Chelsea youngster Nathan — report

Young Chelsea attacking midfielder Nathan did not do too much in his half-season stint at Belenenses in statistical terms, recording only 2 goals and 2 assists in 16 (mostly substitute) appearances for the Portuguese top division side, but he must have impressed them enough to warrant a potential loan extension that’s been rumored since early April. A similar story ran mid-May as well, but so far, it’s remained just that.

Here’s another one: according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Belenenses are now prioritising the extension of Nathan’s loan. It’s unclear what they were doing before or why they weren’t prioritising it, but since they are not a big club, and are thus short on resources, they must play the transfer market smartly to solve their goalscoring issues. So keeping Nathan for next season has become a priority.

At the moment, Belenenses looks like a good match for Nathan’s level. Maybe the 22-year-old will eventually surpass this and grind his way up to higher plateaus. Or maybe not. For now he remains one of the more questionable transfers of recent seasons.
