Premier League clubs have finally started to pay attention to Nice midfielder Jean Michäel Seri after three seasons of continued excellence in Ligue 1.
Linked with several top sides in England, including Chelsea, as well as Italian teams AS Roma and Napoli, it is probably fair to expect that Seri will not be a Nice player for much longer, especially when we consider that he only has one year left on his current contract. (Ed.note: wonder if he’s also “baffled” by all these exit rumors like our very own Thibaut “I shall now play the victim” Courtois?)
Seri does have a release clause that’s rumored to be set at €35m, but for now, teams are trying to lowball Nice and save a few million. You know what that means? If there’s a lowball opportunity, Chelsea are there like a flash!
Alas, Nice have rejected a bid from the Blues, as well as Arsenal, according L’Equipe (via Inside Futbol). What a surprise!
Rejection is almost never a good thing, but at least Chelsea are looking. Which is a good thing. Seri was good enough for Barcelona last summer; he should be plenty good for Chelsea, too (assuming he can get over his cold weather issues). But lowballs only keep you in the rumor-zone.
