Chelsea have allegedly tried to woo Roma centre-back Kostas Manolas for a few years now. But unlike former teammate and long-term transfer target Antonio Rüdiger last summer, Manolas isn’t took keen on moving to Chelsea.
So even if Chelsea were to activate the €36-38 million release clause as rumors increasingly are claiming, and even if Chelsea were able to offer a substantial raise, Manolas would stay.
Manolas apparently had a meeting recently with Roma’s sporting director, Monchi, to tell him as much regarding his decision.

Of course, nothing’s ever guaranteed in football and everything can change at any second, but we can probably safely ignore this rumor for now. Manolas doesn’t want to move, Roma don’t want to sell. At 27, he’s probably in the prime of his career, and Chelsea might be looking for younger, more long-term solutions at this point. (It’s tough to tell without an actual Director of Football or DoF-equivalent officially in place.)
