Chelsea midfielder Mario Pasalic did not have a terrible season on loan at Spartak Moscow last season, but it also wasn’t his best. The 23-year-old ended the term with 21 appearances in the Russian Premier League, scoring 4 goals and assisting one — not good enough to convince Spartak to exercise their buy-option for the midfielder, but good enough to get him into the preliminary Croatia squad for the World Cup. (He was eventually cut from the final roster.)
Such is life for a Chelsea loanee.
So what’s next for Pasalic? He does have three more years on his Chelsea contract but according to Corriere dello Sport, Fiorentina are interested in his services. The report does not specify whether it would be an outright purchase or a temporary move, though last month they were also rumoured to be interested in a season-long loan for Kurt Zouma.
Will they get one or both of Pasalic and Zouma? If we put aside the bitter drama in the wake of Salah’s loan, it might be a favorable arrangement.
